What classes or sports do you coach?
Swimming
What made you want to become a coach?
I’ve been swimming for as long as I can remember, from swimming lessons to club swimming. I always looked up to my teachers and coaches and wanted to be able to help others learn to swim, while making it fun and enjoyable along the way.
What’s your favourite thing about being a coach?
Seeing kids come into swimming feeling unsure of the water and helping them become confident enough to get in without thinking twice. There’s nothing better than seeing a swimmer complete a skill for the first time and watching their face light up with a big, proud smile!
What words of advice would you give to aspiring coaches?
Make it as fun as possible! Kids are more likely to enjoy their lessons and want to come back if they’re learning while having fun.
Be patient too - everyone learns at a different pace. Some swimmers might be visual learners, while others might need a little more explanation or a different approach. Sometimes you have to think outside the box and find what works for each individual swimmer. Not everything works for everyone, and that’s okay!
Tell us one fun fact about yourself!
I’m always in and around the pool! If I’m not at work or coaching at my swimming club, I’m in the pool swimming myself. I also love creating new, fun and educational lesson plans to try when I’m teaching.
